Da Ibiza in meno di 30 minuti si arriva in un vero paradiso: Formentera! Certo molto dipende dalla stagione in cui si ha la fortuna di arrivare “ne la Isla” ma sempre e comunque l’impatto sarà notevole sia per gli occhi che per il cuore! Si dice che sia un’isola magica e magnetica, basta provare per avvertire nel profondo come questo sia vero, come entrando nelle sue corde sia in grado di trasmetterti energia vitale e pulita.

Tante sono le occasioni che la Isla offre, i suoi usi e costumi vanno scoperti e assaporati: uno splendido mare dalle acque cristalline (e le foto non rendono mai a sufficienza perché nella realtà il colpo d’occhio è unico e ancora maggiore), il silenzio, i tramonti strepitosi, i paesaggi rurali fiabeschi e d’altri tempi, gli aperitivi con i piedi nella sabbia e la salsedine addosso, e tanta tanta libertà. Formentera è prima di tutto il luogo del “vivi e lascia vivere” nel rispetto reciproco. Spesso si parla di “morbo Formentera” perché 9 persone su 10 ci ritornano, e state pur certi che ogni volta la Isla vi svelerà un angolo o un’”inquadratura” diversa.

Questi e altri sono i motivi che spingono anche tanti italiani a trasferirsi e aprire un’attività nella Isla, tra questi Matteo, anzi Mettiù, salernitano doc, letteralmente rapito e innamoratosi di quest’angolo di mondo. Mettiù quattro anni fa decide di cambiare vita e aprire una “tienda”: l’ Hippie Shop di Formentera (Calle la Roca Plana 65, Es Pujols). Un negozio dallo spirito “peace and love” che propone alla clientela un ventaglio di articoli sinonimo della libertà più pura, in mood molto “figlio dei fiori”: prodotti artigianali in ceramica, borse, vestiti realizzati in cotone e lino, accessori dall’impeccabile stile hippie, e tra questi edizioni limitate da lui stesso realizzate.

Abbiamo fatto a Mettiù qualche domanda per entrare nello spirito della sua iniziativa e capire il perché di un vero successo, successo che è tutto racchiuso nelle sue parole: “Hippie Shop è per me un mondo fatto di idee colori ed emozioni è questo quello che cerco di trasferire a chiunque sceglie di indossare un capo ideato e pensato con amore senza sovrastrutture”.

1) Come mai hai deciso di aprire il negozio proprio a Formentera e quale lavoro facevi prima di aprire il negozio?
L’idea è nata perché ero stufo di vedere le solite cose nei negozi e per avere il piacere di creare un negozio unico, di nicchia, con un’onda positiva dove la gente potesse avere il piacere di scegliere i capi non perché andassero di moda ma perché li caratterizzassero in quanto uomini pensanti e non automi che seguono la massa.

 2) Ti occupi tu in prima persona della ricerca e della produzione? Quali sono i posti nei quali ami fare ricerca?
Sì scelgo tutto io. Mi nutro di cultura giapponese per i tagli più stilosi, assorbo molte idee nei miei viaggi invernali, cerco sempre di guardarmi intorno, adoro i colori e l’onda hippie come filosofia di vita e come modo per non farsi stressare dalla corsa al denaro, alla moda del momento e  all’industrializzazione. Produco in varie parti dell’Asia dove vado ogni anno tra gennaio e aprile, in particolare Thailandia per vestiti e costumi, India per le borse in juta, Indonesia per i  parei.

 3) Crei in prima persona i tuoi capi? E quali in particolare?
Non so disegnare neanche un fiore e per questo creo i miei capi con il supporto di un disegnatore. Cerco di trasferire le mie idee fino ad opera compiuta. Ho iniziato facendo t-shirt personalizzate a capo unico tagliate direttamente sui clienti in base alle loro forme e al loro desiderio di apparire, ad oggi disegno pantaloni, maglie, gilet, costumi tutto one size.

 4) Qual’è l’accessorio dell’estate 2013?
Costumeeee, il connubio perfetto tra colori, mare e libertà.  Si tratta di un semplice monokini  in lycra, un modello brasiliano che ho modificato al punto da renderlo una piccola muta in grado di plasmarsi al corpo. Il segreto di questo costumino è che scolpisce il lato b, dando una splendida forma alle curve, il tutto con colori che rendono felici il cuore.

E allora, come dimostrano le foto, c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta per vivere un’estate 2013 con stile e con un tocco di spirito hippie. I capi di Mettiù sono molto apprezzati anche dalle celebs, in particolare il monokini è una vera istituzione sulle spiagge dell’isla! Mettiù ci ha anticipato che ha già nuove grandi idee per l’estate 2014… ma rispettiamo il silenzio

N.B. Il negozio chiude verso le 2.00am, procurarsi un paio di sandali o ballerine arrotolabili prima della serata o in uscita dai locali (il Bananas e il Pineta sono a pochi passi dal negozio) potrebbe rivelarsi una grande idea per i piedini da tacco 10 e più!

In less than 30minutes from Ibiza you get to the paradise of Formentera! Ofcourse it really depends in which season of the year you disembark “on the isle” but the impact is still rather remarkable for both eyes and heart! It is said to be a magical and magnetic island, and it’s enough to dig deep down to see just how much this is true, as well as feel its dynamic energy.

The Isle offers many opportunities, it’s customs and traditions need to be tasted and discovered: a crystal clear blue sea (and photos never quite give it justice as in real life the impact is unique and even greater), the quiet, the sensational sunsets, the rural fairtytale landscapes, the aperitifs on the beach barefoot and with salty sea on your skin, and lots and lots of freedom. Firstly, Formentera is the place where “you live and let live” in a mutual sense. Often “Formentera’s disease” is spoken of, because 9 out of 10 people always return, and be sure that every time the Isle reveals a different angle or frame.

These are many of the reasons why Italians very often are pushed into moving there and opening a business on the Island. Amongst these people is Matteo, known as Mettiù, who was literally kidnapped when he fell in love with this little part of the world. Four years ago Mettiù decided to change his life and open a “tienda”: the Hippie Shop di Formentera (Calle la Roca Plana 65, Es Pujols). A shop with a “peace and love” spirit which offers its shopper an array of products synonymous of pure freedom, with a true “flower child” mood. Handcrafted products such as ceramics, bags, clothes made in cotton and linen, impeccably hippie style accessories, and amongst these also limited editions created by Mettiù himself.

We asked Mettiù a few questions to get into the feel of his venture and understand the truth to his success, success which in his own words he describes as: “For me, Hippe Shop is a world made up of colours and feelings and this is what I try to transmit to whoever chooses to wear one of my garments, created with love and not superstructures”.

1) Why did you decide to open your tore in Formentera and what was your job before you opened this store?
The idea was born from the fact that I was fed up with always seeing the same things in the shop windows and the desire to create a rather unique shop, niche, with a positive vibe where people were able to wear an item of clothing, not because it was fashionable and the mass followed this idea.

2)You follow both the research and production? What places do you love to research in?  
Yes I choose everything. I feed on Japanese culture for the more stylish cuts. I absorb many ideas throughout my winter holidays, always looking around myself. I adore colours and the hippie philosophy of life as a way of not stressing one’s life chasing after money, the fashion of the moment or industrialization. I produce my items in many parts of Asia where I go every year between January and April. In particular I  go to Thailand for clothes and costumes, India for juta bags and Indonesia for sarongs.

3) Do you create your garments yourself? And which ones in particular?
I don’t even know how to draw a flower and it is for this reason that I create my garments with the help of a designer. I try to submit my ideas right through to the end. I started off by making personalized t-shirts, a one off, cut and shaped directly on the client depending on how they wanted to look. To this day I design trousers, jumpers, waistcoats and costumes, all one size only.

4) What is the Summer 2013 accessory?
Costumesssssss, a perfect union between colours, sea and freedom. It is a simple lycra monokini, brasilian style which I modified to the point of making it small so that it moulds perfectly to the body. The secret of this little costume is that it sculpts the B side, giving a splendid shape to the curves, all colourful which make your heart happy.

And hence, as the photos show, there is only an embarrassing choice to help you live your summer 2013 with style and a touch of hippie spirit. Mettiù’s garments are also greatly appreciated by many celebrities, especially the monokini, which is a real reference point on the Island’s beaches!
